We were particularly impressed by two characters from the documentary Inside the Mind of a Cat, which debuted on Netflix not so long ago. Vesper and Friar John Claw lives in the Lindores Abbey distillery. These two cats with completely different personalities demonstrate everything we love about cats. We feel for them like the girls who screamed their hearts out in the front row at a Beatles concert. You should get to know them too!

If only these kitties knew how famous, adorable and talented they are…

One works in the background, while the other is the face of the brand

The founders of the distillery, Helen and Drew McKensie, were interviewed by The Scotsman Magazine, which reveals that the two cats couldn’t be more different even though they grew up together. Friar John Claw  the black male is more the face of the house, who likes to check the arriving guests and the order in the distillery’s visitor center. Vesper the calico watches over the imperturbability of the distillery behind the scenes. Both the lady and the gentleman were named as a tribute to the building that houseing the distillery, which once served as an abbey.

During a conversation with the owners of the distillery, it turned out that they did not expect the two cats to be such a big thing. Making a documentary on such a niche subject is a bold undertaking, but nothing proves the popularity of cat keeping better than the fact that since its release, there have been several guests at the distillery who visited the cats’ homes as a result of the film.

We also learned that Friar really enjoyed the attention and has been enjoying it ever since. We can recognize a particularly sociable cat in him; However, Vesper is more shy, so she concentrates more on her work, in which she is also extremely talented.

The miracle of technology has revealed new secrets

The crew stayed in the distillery for several days and did everything possible to film the work of the two five-year-old mousers in the most undisturbed conditions possible. The dynamic duo was even given a tracking collar that allowed the crew to see where they were going at night.

Vesper was found to walk about two kilometers every night, mostly around the distillery grounds, to make sure everything is in order. It has also been observed that she never goes too far from home. Vesper especially likes to give gifts; its owners say that it surprises them with 4-5 treats a day.

What does Friar do until then? He makes his way to the visitor center. He realized that while his sister was an unbeatably talented mouser, his skill could be used elsewhere.

It has always been customary to keep cats in distilleries, because rodents can easily multiply in such places due to the abundance of grain. It’s really cool to see that such ancient traditions hold their own even in the modern world. But speaking of modern things, luckily you can follow the adventures of Friar John Claw and Vesper on Instagram.
