We have collected 6 cat breeds with an estimated lifespan of 15-20 or even 25 years!

1. Burmese

These active cats have an average lifespan of 18-25 years, which is longer than most breeds. They may owe their long life to their kindness, playfulness and love of exercise. In addition, they get along very well with children too.

If you want to be on the safe side, keep your pet inside. Or if you can, always supervise their time in the yard. We wrote about the dangers that can lurk for cats who go on a journey of discovery.

2. Balinese

The balinese cat is a natural mutation of the siamese. Their hair pattern and eye color are the same, but the fur of the balinese is long. Officially recognized breed since 1961. Their temperament is also very similar to the siamese, but their elegant, commanding appearance makes them even more exciting, if that’s even possible. They are tenacious, mobile, intelligent, “talkative” animals who can live up to 18-20 years under the right conditions.

3. Bombay

These pitch-black, mysterious cats do not owe their long lives to some otherworldly force, but to their excellent genetics. Or not. Of course, you never know with cats… Interestingly, even despite the dominant black fur gene, it happens that the color of the newborn will be different. This shade is called sable, which is a dark brown color named after a predatory mammal.

They are very special cats, because they especially enjoy contact and communication with people and even children. Perhaps thanks to this attitude, they can live up to 20 years. And, of course, probably also because they don’t have to pay rent and bills.

4. Russian blue

These cats are as dignified in appearance as they are in character. They are quiet, reserved and thoughtful, and very attached to their families and form deep relationships. Their average lifespan can be 15-20 years. In these beautiful cats, we can find our best listeners and our most discreet confidants.

5. Persian

These fluffy and adorably confused-looking kitties can also live up to 15-20 years if you take care of their health. Like other cat breeds, persian cats are also prone to diseases such as corneal ulcers or digestive problems, so do not neglect regular routine veterinary examinations! Their fur needs to be brushed daily, which prevents it from becoming matted. In this way, we not only preserve their beauty, but also ensure their well-being. And in return, we can share our lives with a friendly, affectionate, loving kitty.

6. American Shorthair

Due to its playful and light temperament, it is also popular among families with children. If you’ve ever been lucky enough to pet such a cat, its thick, dense, amazingly soft fur must have left a deep impression on you. If you haven’t had the opportunity to do so yet, we recommend adding it to your bucket list! Another big advantage is that they have great fun alone, they don’t need constant attention, but they always appreciate interactive play and socialization. It is an exceptionally healthy breed, but it can be prone to heart disease, so regular medical check-ups should be taken care of. Its average lifespan is 15-20 years.

According to Guinness World Records, the world’s oldest cat is a 38-year-old Texas house cat, named Creme Puff. The cat’s diet consisted of bacon, asparagus, eggs, broccoli and a good strong black most days. Reading this, it is perhaps an even greater achievement that he left for the eternal hunting grounds in 2005 at the age of 38 years and 3 days.
